Microsoft Security Essentials is by far, the single best all-around computer security software for a home computer, in my eyes.  As stated above, I’ve used plenty (some I even paid for), and have never been as satisfied as I am with Microsoft Security Essentials.  This software is very easy to use and does all the work for you.  With it, it’s nearly impossible to make an error.  One thing to remember, however, is to uninstall your current anti-virus software before doing the actual install of Microsoft Security Essentials, this way your old software doesn’t conflict with the new install.  The software also is linked to an online database, provided by Microsoft, which keeps the software updated on all the new viruses, etc. that are running around the internet.  Furthermore, you can also setup weekly schedules to do “Quick Scans” or “Full Scans” or even “Custom Scans”.  I recommend doing a full scan once a week to stay on top of everything.  If you are constantly downloading files from the internet, you may want to consider doing a full scan every day or every other day to stay on top of potential threats.
