The Best Way To Build A Home Gym
Different Ways To Build A Home Gym
There are definitely different ways to build a home gym, however, I just built one today, and my careful planning paid off quite a bit. We managed to create a home gym that included the home gym equipment and fitness equipment that we needed in the small amount of space we had available. Once we created our plan, it only took us about 2 hours to complete our home gym.
Home Fitness – Working Out At Home
Home fitness is very important if you have an extremely busy schedule. My girlfriend and I lead tiresome schedules, and have virtually no time to drive to the gym for a good 45-60 minute workout each day (or even twice a week, for that matter). For this reason, working out at home is our only real option. We love to be physically fit, and the last few months we have really fallen out of our routines, due to time constraints. We had put off building a gym at home, as we believed that our schedules would free up. We were kidding ourselves; she is in college and I work full-time during the day and run an online business in the evenings, not to mention, I have 2 kids to tend to. Needless to say our schedules truly demand home gym. So, in regards to building a gym at home, the first step is to determine exactly what type of home fitness you desire. What types of workouts will you be able to do? We decided that some muscle building, cardio and core work will suffice for now. You must determine what types of workouts you will be doing, before you can build a home gym.
Home Gym Equipment And Machines
Once you’ve decided what types of home fitness you will be focusing on, you need to figure out what types of home gym equipment and machines you will need to accomplish your workout routines. This is an integral part of a home gym and cannot be overlooked. Obviously you will have already decided on an area to build a home gym, so if you haven’t measured the usable space in that area, you need to do so now. Once you’ve measured out the area for your home gym, you can start searching for home gym equipment and home gym machines. When considering the machines you are going to purchase for your home gym, you should first make a scalable sketch of your proposed area. This will be important, because once you start shopping for your equipment, you’ll need to base some of your decisions on the size of the equipment.
The “available space” factor is a major factor in the building of your home gym. And if you are working with little space, you should consider home gym machines that can accomplish multiple fitness tasks for your routine. By using home gym machines that can accomplish this, you can save a lot of space in your new home gym. If space isn’t an issue, then of course, the sky’s the limit. We were working with minimal space (approximately 120 square feet). For this reason, we had to really make some hard decisions. We spent a lot of time making those decisions, and we are very happy with the end result.
When deciding on home gym equipment, focus on SFC – Space, Functionalities and Cost. Keep in mind that you’re pretty much frozen on the space factor, and for most people, the cost factor, however, the functionalities factor can vary quite a bit. There are several home gym machines out there that can help you workout several parts of the body, rather than buying a machine for each workout you want to accomplish. As well, there are several machines that can be stowed when not in use, which work out several parts of the body.
We spent a lot of time determining what to purchase. We went with the following:
Yoga Mat, Medicine Ball, Leg & Ankle Weights, Jump Rope, Ab Roller, Door-Mounted Pull-up Bar, Weight Bench w/Preacher & Leg Curl attachment, EZ Curl Bar, Adjustable Dumbbells, Recumbent Exercise Bike, Treadmill, and Pushup Blocks. Most of these can fit on a shelf, or in a corner for storage.
With this selection we are able to work out our core, all major muscle groups and do adequate cardio workouts. And believe it or not, we were able to fit it all in our small 120 sq. ft. space. Again, proper planning is very important when building a home gym.
Home Gym Flooring
When building a home gym, flooring is more important than you may think. This is true, even if you are building it in a room with wonderful carpet. Carpet is not a good base for a any workout equipment, especially when lifting weights or doing core work. We chose the better half of our garage for our home gym, and still didn’t feel comfortable with using concrete as our flooring. We chose the Gold’s Gym 6-Piece Puzzle Mat sets. Each set comes with 24 square feet, and interlocks very well. It seems extremely durable and strong. Plus, the sets come with removable edges for exterior sides and corners (for aesthetic purposes). Home gym flooring is a definite must-have in my opinion. The sets are about $20 each, depending on where you purchase them.
Build A Home Gym
Once you’ve mapped out exactly how you want your home gym to be setup, and selected the different machines and equipment you’ll be using for your home gym, you can finally build a home gym for you and your family. I recommend putting together the bigger items first, as it will give you a quicker sense of progress and is key, if you find out later that your measurements are a little off from when you were planning everything. Make sure that you have all the tools necessary to complete your task, though, most equipment will come with the tools necessary. Put your equipment together in the area that you will be using it in, as some equipment is heavy and/or cumbersome to move.
Best Home Gym
The best home gym is the one that will suit all of your fitness needs. If you have planned everything out properly, and found all the necessary equipment to accomplish all of the workouts that you would like to accomplish, then you will have created a wonderful home gym. Once you’ve created the best home gym for you and your family, all you need to do is make sure that you follow your plan and use your new home gym on a regular basis so you get as much out of it as possible. Enjoy.
